Terminal Renovation Update February 2015

10 February 2015

Construction of Stage 1 of the Airport Terminal Renovations have finally reached the finish line!

The Airport has been operating under the new arrangements since Friday 16 January, with the café in the sterile zone of the departures lounge. Now when you check in for your flight you can proceed straight through screening into the departure lounge ready to board your flight. The cafe and toilet facilities are now within this sterile zone. A separate coffee station has been installed near the arrivals lounge for incoming passengers and their waiting families. We’ve had positive feedback from passengers and staff at the airport as congestion at the screening point has considerably reduced.

The contractors will continue working into next week to tidy up the finishing touches. The re-installation of the glazed mural behind the security screening point is still being fabricated into its new frame and should be ready to install in the next 2 weeks. A few other minor changes are planned within the check-in/arrivals area for user comfort, such as a baby change table.

Seeing what has been achieved over the last few months makes it all worth it!

The excitement isn’t over just yet - we are starting Stage 2 of the terminal redevelopment works on Friday 13 February. The works, when completed, will streamline the process for international arrivals and departures and allow for larger aircraft to be used for international flights. This will include extending the departures and international arrives lounge airside, relocating the processing modules and installing some concertina doors to allow more flexibility. We'll also be providing some more office space opposite the check-in counters.

It is anticipated the works will be completed by early May 2015.

The Town would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we continue to improve the facilities at the Port Hedland International Airport.
