Karratha
Karratha is a modern regional city in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, located about 1,500 km north of Perth. It developed rapidly in the 1960s and 1970s as a service hub for the iron ore and natural gas industries, and today it remains closely tied to the resources sector. Surrounded by striking red ranges, rugged outback landscapes, and the Dampier Archipelago, Karratha offers a unique mix of industry and natural beauty. The city has grown to include modern amenities, shopping centres, and cultural facilities, while nearby areas hold significant Indigenous heritage, including ancient petroglyphs at Murujuga National Park. Despite its industrial roots, Karratha is also a base for outdoor adventure, fishing, and exploring the dramatic Pilbara environment.
