Hedland Students Share Airport Ideas to Win

7 November 2012

Hedland students of all ages are invited to enter the Port Hedland International Airport’s art and story competition for their chance to win a $1000 travel voucher for their family. Students can draw or paint their favourite thing about airports with winning entries on show at the airport and published in the North West Telegraph.

There is also a writing category with students invited to share their best travel story and winning entries published in the North West Telegraph.

Mayor Kelly Howlett said the Port Hedland International Airport precinct was undergoing a major redevelopment.

“Improving the airport is one of our top priorities – we will be creating more space, upgrading infrastructure, providing more retail and logistics services, delivering new business opportunities and refurbishing the terminal.

“We want to hear what Hedland’s young people think about the airport – what is your favourite thing about airports? What do you love most about travelling? Is it checking in? Handing over your boarding pass? Watching planes land and takeoff?

“At the end of the competition, we will have a collection of great images which we will be able to proudly show off at the airport for all visitors and residents to see.

“By sharing our young people’s ideas about travel, the airport really will be a welcoming gateway to the North WesT."

Mayor Howlett invited Hedland students to get creative for their chance to win great prizes, including a $1000 travel voucher.

“Harvey World Travel South Hedland have been very generous and donated a $1000 travel voucher for the winning entry,” she said.

“$250 vouchers for Smirkey Sports and Stingaz Surf & Skate and QANTAS caps are also up for grabs.

“There will be three categories – grades one to four, grades five to seven and grades eight to 12 – with an art and a story winner from each category.”

For your chance to win have your artwork on display at the airport and win great prizes, you can:

- Draw, paint or create a digital masterpiece about your favourite thing about airports
- Write about your best travel experience – a short story, poem or newspaper article (500 words or less)
